Susan Cohen has been writing and
performing songs for children and adults since she was 15.
She draws her influence from the world of folk and folk rock music,
including such legendary figures as Tom Paxton, Phil Ochs and Bob Dylan.
Dennis Sullivan, founder of Windmill
Lane Entertainment, has been producing public and private concerts
and musical theatre, as well as booking dance and concert
orchestras in the Greater Boston area since 1980. He has also
presented educational workshops and children's concerts in
virtually every community in the Boston area. As a performer
Dennis has toured, recorded and appeared on television with groups
such as the Boston Symphony, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Boston
Pops. He is currently in his 25th season as timpanist for the Boston
Classical Orchestra, founded by the late Harry Ellis Dickson.
Jeffrey Hoefler - Trumpet, Guitar. Percussion,
Jeffrey is one of the most
active free-lance trumpeters in the New England area. His activities
range from commercial work to performing with jazz, theater, wind and
orchestral groups such as the Reagle Players, Massachusetts Wind
Orchestra and Boston Chamber Ensemble.
Jeff has appeared as soloist with the Symphony by the Sea, Lafayette
Symphony Orchestra, Metropolitan Wind Symphony, Hillyer Festival Orchestra.
In addition to his career as a trumpeter, he plays guitar and sings with pop
and rock bands throughout New England.
Dennis Murphy – Mandolin, Flute, Bass,
Dennis has producing videos in the Boston area for commercial, educational
and community organizations since 1980. His work as a lighting specialist
has won numerous awards. He also directs video productions and operates
cameras for education, arts, and corporate clients, while managing media
technology at Harvard and MIT. His still photography was recently the
feature of an exhibition at the Zeitgeist Gallery.
Dennis has performed on guitar, bass, flute, mandolin and percussion in numerous
styles and venues in New England and on the West Coast.
Brian Haley – Djembe, percussion,
Brian is at the vanguard of assimilating Afro-Cuban percussion into a
number of other musical idioms, most prominently performing with the
Celtic music group, Sin-é. In this, he is contributing to the long-line
of musical integration between Celtic and American influences that has
been part of Boston’s cultural legacy..
Brian is also a master wood-worker and active as a Zen Shiatzu therapist
for corporate and individual clients in the Boston area.
Mark Rosen – Digereedoo, guitar,
Mark is an accomplished song-writer and composer who has been active in Boston’s
musical scene since his high-school days. His compositions have been
released on CD as well as provided the sound track for numerous films.
He is active as a sound technician at concerts in the Boston area, including
the Regatta Bar. He also manages media technology at Harvard University.
Mark is also an accomplished sound-healer who facilitates regular workshops
in the Boston and Cambridge area.
Payson Park Church – UCC ,
Under the direction of Terry Halco, Minister of Music, the Payson Park Church
Choir provides weekly musical programs for the church’s services. Special annual
programs include Christmas, Easter and Holy Week as well as combined programs
with other area churches. Its members include professional and amateur singers
with a common bond in musical fellowship.
Terry Halco is an accomplished singer, having performed and accompanied the Musica Sacra,
Polymnia Choral and other prominent groups. He is also an organist, pianist, arranger,
composer, and teacher.
Barbara Joan Tiger Bass - Poetry ,
BJTigerBass is a poet / non-fiction writer living in Oakland, California.
Inspired by both the details of daily life and the unanswerable universal
questions her lyric poetry stretches between narrative line and linguistic rhythm,
from specific moment to spontaneous rush of emotion. Her work is published in Peralta
Press, on-line at VeRT. She teaches creative writing to children and adults through
her business, Enjoy Learning. Barbara Joan received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College
and her MFA in Creative Writing from Mills College.
Her poem, Silent Sky, was inspired by the halt of aviation traffic in the hours after the 9/11 attacks.
Maureen Medeiros - Drums ,
Since being smitten by drum-fever at an early age, Maureen is
a lifelong lover of music. (Cupid must have had a special
drumstick in his quiver just for her). She enjoys the fun of
playing and especially the pleasure it brings to listeners.
She is a veteran of numerous music competitions and an
experienced leader in drum corps technique. From the bongos
in her car to the drumsticks at her desk, Maureen lives and
gives the power of music every day.
Ayakano Cathleen Read – Koto ,
Ayakano Cathleen Read began studying Yamada School koto music in 1969.
On January 7, 1974, she became the first non-Japanese to join the shachu (musicians’ guild)
of Nakanoshima Kin’ichi. Cathleen was given the performing name Ayakano. Ayakano has performed
widely in the United States, Japan, and Africa at museums, universities, and concert halls,
on radio and television. Ms. Read has a BA from Mount Holyoke College and a Ph.D.
in Ethnomusicology from Wesleyan University. She is Adjunct Professor in the Music
Department of Tufts University. Students can study koto, shamisen and voice for credit
with Ms. Read.
The Agbekor Society – African Drumming ,
Formed in 1979, the Agbekor Society is a group of friends who enjoy playing traditional
African music. A core of the group's members studied with Prof. David Locke at Tufts.
For many years the group offered public classes in music and dance in Greater Boston.
Lately, the group has focused on weekly meetings of experienced members. The Society is
modeled after the community drum-and-dance clubs found in West Africa.
Lillith - Professional Belly Dancer ,
Lillith has had an active passion for dance since 1994. She has trained from coast to coast
in styles ranging from ballet to belly dance, including jazz, salsa, hip-hop, and swing.
An accomplished professional Belly Dancer, Lillith currently teaches and performs in the Boston
